Life

Megan and I sat down together and ate dinner at our house the other night for the first time in quite a while. We get so busy doing things in the evenings that it’s not difficult to notice the irregularity of sitting down to dinner together when we finally do.

Why is it that we let life get so busy that we don’t spend time with the ones that we care about the most? Whether it be our jobs, time with recreational activities, some other hobby that you’re highly involved in, or something else, why do we let these things intrude in our order of what’s truly important in life?

Megan and I have even noticed that not only do we allow these things to get in the way of our time together, but also we allow them to interfere with our personal time with God. The list of what’s most important in our lives, we know that God needs to be at the top with each other right below that. So, what happens that moves things around without us ever really noticing what’s happening in our lives?

I think it’s Satan using the busyness of life to keep us from growing in our relationship with the Lord. Depending on the culture, I think Satan uses all sorts of different tactics to interfere in our relationship with the Lord. But all to often, in American culture, he uses the one thing that everyone seems to be struggling with, being too busy.

If you were here for Graduation Sunday, I mentioned two of the three things that Paul asked for when it was coming down to the end of his life. The one thing I didn’t mention that he asks for is in II Timothy 4:13, and there he asks for his cloak. I think Paul has to ask for his cloak because he lived such a simple, non-busy life. Let’s take a hint from Paul and see the value in a life that’s not too busy. Together, let’s prevents Satan from manipulating our minds into thinking that busyness is always good thing.
