Sunday, November 23, 2008. It’s a day I’ll never forget. On that day I understood what it meant to be loved. I was on stage at the end of my ordination service listening to prayers being offered to God for me, prayers from men that had made an impact in my life. As I took a moment to glance out into the audience, I knew that I was loved.
All kinds memories came to mind. I thought back to my childhood at First Church and the people that stood beside me and lead me as I grew up there. I thought about my time at Lincoln Christian College and the great friendships that I was able to build there that have helped me stay strong. And then, I thought about more recent things like my time at Cayuga Christian Church and the time that I had been able to spend with friends at CrossRoads Christian Church. There were many influential people in my life that all came together that night to show me their love and support.
Now that I am at CrossRoads, I know that I will have many more people love and influence my life in a positive way, and I pray that I am able to do the same for many of you. I hope to continually have that opportunity, an opportunity to give love in the way that love has been so richly given to me.
I want to challenge you this week. Go to that person in your life that has positively influenced you and helped make you the person you are today. Tell him or her that you are thankful for them and the time, support, and love that they have shown you. Then start thinking considering whether or not you are that person for others.
