Distractions

As a person goes through life, there will inevitably be times when he or she has situations arise that are distracting no matter where you are and what you are doing throughout the day. Tiger Woods has been the media’s focal point for quite some time now. We have been informed of his scandalous personal life and his attempt at rehabilitation. With this immense distraction in his life, he decided to take some time off from gold and concentrate on himself. Without a doubt, his decision was the best decision for himself and his family.

Tiger is playing golf again now, and even though he took his time away and tried to focus on getting through this very distracting situation, he still has not performed up to his capabilities. And this seems to be so because of this grand distraction in his life.

When I was in high school, I went to almost every high school football game that our school played in. During my sophomore year, Westville’s final record was 9 – 2. This was by far our best season in school history. However, during one of those two games that we lost, I remember sitting in the stands and listening to people talk about how one of our key players wasn’t playing very well on that night because of a personal problem in his life, a distraction from the game.

Distractions don’t just come to athletes during their times of performance. Distractions are bound to arise for all of us. But the question for us, as Christian men and women, has to revolve around how much we will let life’s situations distract us from what’s really important in life.

During these moments in our lives, we need to cry out to Jesus for help and guidance. We need to cry out to Jesus for wisdom and perseverance. We need to humble ourselves before the creator of the universe and realize that He is still in control. But all too often, the distractions of life, they not only take our minds away from work and family, but they pull us away from our Lord.

Why do we try to make it through these tough times on our own? Why do we think that we can always come up with the answers and solve all our problems? Today, if you’re distracted, humble yourself before the Lord and cry out to Jesus.
